The Manse Method®
The memory remains.
The response attached to it can change.
A professional psycho-sensory approach developed through years of direct work with people affected by trauma, grief and difficult life experiences.
Work with the response,
without retelling the story.
The Manse Method® is a structured psycho-sensory, content-free approach designed to help change or reduce the emotional response attached to a specific past experience.
The person identifies the experience internally while the practitioner guides the process. They do not need to disclose the details of what happened or repeatedly talk through the experience.
The memory remains. What can change is the emotional response connected to it.
Where it began
Where it began.
The Manse Method® wasn't created in a boardroom. It grew from the work itself.
For more than four years, The Manse Retreat became the setting for Kim and Carl Dourish's work with hundreds of people affected by trauma, PTSD, grief, loss and difficult life experiences.
Working closely with people day after day gave them the opportunity to observe what happened when emotionally charged memories were approached differently.
Patterns began to emerge. The approach evolved, was refined through repeated use, and eventually became what is now The Manse Method®.
From retreat to method
What began at The Manse became something much bigger.
As the work developed, Kim and Carl made a deliberate decision: the approach should not remain something only they could use.
The Manse Method® was formalised into professional practitioner training, with defined practice standards, ethical boundaries, assessment and ongoing quality assurance.

The founders
Developed through
experience.
The Manse Method® was created by Kim and Carl Dourish through their work together at The Manse Retreat.
Their backgrounds brought together different perspectives, but the method itself grew from something much simpler: working directly with people, observing what changed, refining the approach and repeating what worked.

The relationship
The Manse Method® and Emotion Pathway®
The Manse Method® is the professional practitioner approach.
Emotion Pathway® is organisational training that teaches individuals a practical self-applied framework. Emotion Pathway® participants do not become Manse Method® practitioners and are not trained or authorised to practise professionally with others.
